Balloon Payload Program Logo UMD Balloon Payload Program UMD BPP

Payloads

At any given time in the program, a number of payloads are in various stages of preparation for future flights. The payloads we fly range from sentimental items flown to near-space or simple sensor-in-a-box type payloads to complex locomotive payloads with several moving parts, payloads with radio transceivers powerful enough to stream data from the balloon in-flight, and everything in between.

Active Payloads

These payloads are currently being developed or are regular occurrences on flights. They will likely be flying on upcoming flights.

Inactive Payloads

This is a selection of payloads that have completed their intended scientific / engineering goals, no longer have an active team to work on them, or are otherwise no longer flying for one reason or another.
